Welcome to junior year! Congratulations on becoming an upperclassman. It's time to get serious about the college process. Junior year is packed with important preparatory work in order to make the college application go smoothly come senior year. Here is your to-do list:
- Take the PSAT
- Study for the SAT/ACT
- Start your College Essay: While finishing your college essay is something you need to do in the beginning of senior year, it is important to start it towards the end of your junior year. Review these guidelines and start writing.
- Build a College List
- Start the Common Application:
- Maintain Extracurricular Activities: If you have an questions, review these guidelines from the Freshman year portion of the website
- If you have any new accomplishments or activities, update your résumé. For a refresher on what your résumé should look like, visit the Résumé page.
- Build your Schedule: Review the diploma requirements and the department paths and build a schedule following your select path. For example, if you are trying to get admitted into a selective college, you should be taking AP classes, as well as honors classes, while continuing on the advanced track in each department.
- *Optional* SAT Subject Tests: Check to see if the colleges on your list recommend or require SAT subject tests. If so, review the information from the above link and register for the test here or visit the College Board website directly.
- *Optional* Pre-College Summer Program: If you are hoping to gain admission into a selective college, attending a program would like nice on your application.
